To install, run:

msiexec /l*v %TEMP%\MgsKB100982.log /qb- /p MgsKB100982.msp REINSTALL=ALL

The self patch package attached to this article is the recommended method to install this patch on managed devices. Receive the package into your software library, distribute the package to you distribution hierarchy and attach the package to machine policy affecting the managed devices. However, as the issue being resolved by this patch affects the execution of machine policy via an event in the ManageSoft schedule, a remote execution task to force a machine policy update should be used to ensure the patch is applied by managed devices.

A reboot is required to complete the installation if ManageSoft is installing a package at the time the patch is installed. In that case, the reboot does not have to be performed immediately, but the issue will not be resolved until the reboot is performed. Use the additional msiexec parameter REBOOT=ReallySuppress to suppress any reboot at the time of patch installation.

If the patch is deployed using an external installer-based ManageSoft package, Windows Installer will return a non-0 exit code if a reboot is required. ManageSoft typically interprets that as an installation failure. If the patch installation succeeded, the installation should report success after the next policy update. Uninstallation is only possible on Windows XP SP2, Windows Server 2003 SP1, or on earlier platforms running Windows Installer 3.0 or later.
